how does the points system worK?
Residential college housing for returning members is based on the number of points you accumulate over the previous three quarters. At Hobart, you can earn points by going to events organized by the exec board or residents. The more points you earn, the better your position in line for picking a room. Housing occurs at the beginning of Spring Quarter each year, and so the points on which your housing priority is based are the Fall and Winter quarters of the current academic year as well as the Spring quarter of the preceding academic year.
The minimum number of points required for a resident to return to Hobart next year is 5 points per quarter (10 for first-years, 15 for returning students). Of the 5 quarterly points, at least one must be from an event that is not a fellows lunch.
During the housing meeting, people choose their rooms in an order based on the ranking of the amount of points people have. Each residential college has a different system for accumulating points. In Hobart, attendance at every Hobart-sponsored event or meeting earns you one point. There are also other ways to earn points, such as hosting (aka buying food for) the weekly Munchies, cleaning up the kitchen, or supporting another Hobartian by attending their event. Exec members also get 5 points for every quarter they are on the board.
In the event of a resident transferring from another residential college where the points system is different, the two residential colleges will be in communication regarding how their points will translate to our points system. If you are not a Hobart resident and wish to live here the next year, you must become a non-resident member immediately and begin earning Hobart points.
